Need an afternoon vacation?  Need to buy a gift for someone?  Looking for a new outfit?  How about spending the afternoon in the historic and so very charming downtown Winter Haven.  That’s where you will find a store you can get lost in.  It’s called The Red Geranium, and they are getting ready for the holidays in a big way!

Owner of The Red Geranium, Geri Tidwell started her business 13 years ago.  Evolving from a decorating studio to a small shop, and finally to a larger shop.  The Red Geranium is not a consignment shop.  There is one section of upscale resale, but everything else in the store with the exception of the estate furniture, is new.  “We are more of a home decor, unique boutique,” Geri explained with a big smile on her face.  You can tell she’s very passionate about the shop, her partners and downtown Winter Haven.  “We bring in high quality items and change up our inventory often.”  You can visit every week, and see something new.

In the current location for three years,  Geri says their strongest quality is their customer service.  “We have customers that have been coming in here for years and years.  We have a lot of snowbirds that make it a point to come in the first week they’re down here.  People say if they’re having a bad day and need a pick me up, they can come to the store.  It’s a great escape.”  Vendors don’t change, but the products do.  They have a large selection of refurbished estate furniture, jewelry, home decor, clothing and seasonal items.  Shop for yourself or it’s an excellent place to find a gift.  Don’t know what to buy?   They’re more than happy to help guide you.

With 5 children and 4 grandchildren, family is Geri’s first priority.  She wanted to be able to make her own hours, that’s where the idea of a co-op came from.   “We have six ladies who are business owners in the Red Geranium.  We have a great working relationship and share the workdays which allows us all more time for our families.  Many of us have elderly parents we help care for.  It gives us flexible schedules,” she explained.

“The Shop Small movement has been a big boost as well as Main Street Winter Haven’s work promoting downtown.”   The Red Geranium is proud to be a part of the downtown Winter Haven family.    “I was part of the original planning committee on Main Street to bring events to downtown,” she explained.  Geri is happy to see the area businesses promoting each other and growing our city.

The back room has been turned into a “Christmas Room” for the rest of the year.  It is full of Christmas decor, ornaments, art, trees, etc.  “We’re excited, we’ve always wanted to do that,”  Geri said.  As a matter of fact, you can probably get quite a bit of your holiday shopping done in one store.  From gifts, candles, decor and even a new holiday outfit and jewelry can all be found under one roof.  And because it’s an independant shop, you can be assured to get the best service and the highest quality of merchandise with people that know about the product you’re buying.  They’re happy to answer questions, and even gift wrap it for you!  How’s that for service? Follow them on Facebook @TheRedGeraniumwh to keep up to date on all the new arrivals.

By the way, the name was inspired by her grandmother’s garden in north Florida.  As a teenager, Geri would be asked to go out and pick the flowers for her grandma.  You’ve got to love that!
