WHAT’S MY BUS NUMBER?
Polk County Public Schools is opening a temporary call center for the beginning of the 2019-20 school year. Parents and guardians can dial 863-534-7300 for assistance from Monday, July 29 through Friday, Aug. 23 on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Staff will be able to provide help with all manner of transportation questions, including student bus numbers; stop times and locations; transportation eligibility; bus delays and other topics.
SCHOOLS THAT FIT YOUR NEEDS
The Family Empowerment Scholarship (FES) Program was established during the 2019 Legislative Session. The FES provides children whose families have limited financial resources a scholarship to attend a private school selected by the parent. A student is eligible for the FES if the student meets certain criteria. More info at polkschoolsfl.com
FATHER & SON TRIP
Dieter Deussen and his five-year-old son Julian have completed the trip of a lifetime. In a span of 13 days, the duo from Germany visited seven different countries and eight different cities on their way to visit all of the LEGOLAND® Parks throughout the world! “The key to this trip was to have fun and enjoy extensive time with my son,” said Deussen while embracing Julian. “It’s a memory that we’ll have forever.”
ANOTHER GREAT SCHOOL YEAR
Polk County Public Schools kept its positive momentum with another B grade in 2018-19. It was PCPS’ second consecutive year as a “B” district. Comparing 2018-19’s school grades to the year prior, Polk County saw the number of “A” schools increase to 26 from 23; “B” schools increase to 29 from 27; “C” schools decline to 48 from 68; and “D” schools increase to 21 from 6. There were no F-rated schools in Polk.
On July 11, Sheriff Grady Judd administered a special oath of office to Mr. Ryan Petty – father of 14-year-old Alaina Petty, a Parkland shooting victim – to become an honorary Polk County School Guardian. Mr. Andrew Pollack - father of 18-year-old Meadow Pollack, a Parkland shooting victim - was also in attendance. Mr. Pollack has been a staunch advocate for school safety and strong supporter of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission and serves on the Commission with Sheriff Judd.

LEGOLAND® Florida Resort constructed a life-size LEGO® Astronaut model comprised of almost 66,000 LEGO bricks to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. On June 23rd, the Cypress Gardens Water Ski brought home the Southern Regional Championship trophy from Sarasota! Since 2012, the Cypress Gardens Water Ski team has been competing in the Southern Regional Championships against some worthy competitors from Sarasota, Lakeland and Tampa.
