On the cover:  Tangerine Egret by Adam Strang Bass

Our August issue has one of the most beautiful covers yet!  Local artist, Adam Strang Bass is a photographer with his first show in September.  Read our profile about him and then make sure to visit his exhibition at the Lake Wales Arts Council.

This month’s cover story is a celebration of the Theatre Winter Haven turning 50!  It was a rocky start, but with the help of the city, talented actors and excited audiences, it has grown into one of the most successful community theaters in the country.  Congratulations!

We also talk about a couple of exciting new businesses coming to downtown, a major musical act coming in September and a few locals with some very special stories.  This is a jam-packed issue and we hope you feel inspired after reading it!

This past month, we had the honor of attending the Florida Magazine Association’s annual Charlie Awards Gala.  This year, Haven Magazine won three awards and I couldn’t be more proud of our team!   Winning for Best Writing Feature (Skunk Ape written by Tara Crutchfield), Best Cover Photography & Best Advertisement for a Client (Steven Maynard & myself).  This brings us to a total of six awards earned over the past three years.  I humbly say, that we are the most awarded magazine in the county, and we only plan to improve.  Thank you to everyone that picks us up each month, and to all of our advertisers that support us.  We can NOT do this without either of you!!

Keep tagging us with #kindachill each month, you might find yourself in the next issue!  Speaking of our next issue, our September will be the biggest one yet filled with your picks for the BEST of HAVEN!  It’s something you’ll want to pick up early and hang onto as a resource for local businesses.

Hope to see you around!  Have a great August!
