Kathleen High has partnered with the University of South Florida for a “guaranteed admissions” program. Kathleen High students who meet certain criteria — a 3.7 recalculated GPA with a 1100 SAT or 22 ACT — will receive guaranteed acceptance to any USF campus, and will also be given priority consideration for the History of Achievement Scholarship. This is the first school in Polk County to be included in the program.


The Winter Haven City Commission allowed the Emergency Mask Ordinance to expire October 15th.  The City Commission strongly encourages the use of face coverings/masks when in public settings, especially when difficult to social distance. Business owners are permitted to make their own determination as to whether employees and/or customers should wear masks.


LEGOLAND® Florida Resort has announced plans to commemorate ten awesome years with a yearlong party in 2021! In addition to building the biggest LEGO cake ever, LEGOLAND will build fun into 2021 with new events, attractions, and shows to celebrate 10 years in Winter Haven. 


Polk State College will host a virtual celebration on December 10th  for fall 2020 graduates.  PSC will host a series of drive-thru events to allow students to pick up diploma covers, honors cords, and alumni items the week prior to the virtual celebration. Students are asked to monitor their College emails and for additional information as it becomes available.


The City of Winter Haven Parks, Recreation and Culture Department invited the public to the Amphitheatre and Skate Park Dedication Friday, October 2. These much-anticipated improvements to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park include the construction of a state-of-the-art skate park and reimagined Amphitheatre.


Polk County Public Schools is still requiring masks or other approved face coverings for all K-12 students. PCPS mask requirements remain in effect on campuses and properties, regardless of local ordinances.  PCPS continues to work with the Florida Department of Health in Polk County to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our schools following CDC-recommended guidance.

The newly installed Trailhead Park Playground is open and ready for play! Located on 3rd St. NW off Lake Silver Drive, it has 10,000 square feet of play area with Kompan Equipment. The interactive and inclusive features include a large 2-5 year old play structure, 5-12 year play structure, climbing blocks, swings, springer toys and a merry-go-round. There is something for every age and ability.  The park is covered with shade sails with pour-in-place rubber flooring.
