Situated on Bradenton Beach on Anna Maria Island, this quaint little resort is just under 2 hours away. If you’re looking for a quick getaway or even a long weekend retreat, Silver Surf is a great idea.
The resort is pretty old-school. At check-in, you’re given an actual key on a seahorse keychain to your room. Along with 2 chocolate chip cookies and a map of the island, you’re ready to start your adventure. The resort is small, only 50 rooms, so it’s very easy to find your way around. We ended up on the third floor and could see and hear the gulf waters just outside our door. The interior of the room is pretty simple, there’s nothing fancy about it. However they make up for that in cleanliness, the room was spotless. It comes complete with everything you might need including a kitchenette, dining table, couch, full bathroom and a comfortable bed. It’s perfect after a day on the beach and dinner in town. They offer a continental “grab and go” breakfast each morning, free for resort guests.
Silver Surf guests get special access to the private white sand beach just across the street. From there, you can request a massage in the tiki huts on the sand for an additional charge. No need to drag chairs, you’re welcome to use the chairs and towels provided by the resort. Spend your day relaxing in the sunshine to the soothing sounds of the gulf. Or if you like a more active day, you can rent a jetski or other water sports equipment and play in the private waters of Silver Surf. Bring your own fishing rod and fish off the Bridge Street pier or charter a fishing trip. The resort also has a pool if you don’t feel like getting sand between your toes that day.
A free island trolley passes right in front of the resort. The trolley picks up people approximately every 20 minutes and can take you to another part of the island. You can head on down to Bridge Street and have a casual dinner or a romantic night out. Families, young and old, large and small can find something that works for them. Play putt-putt with the kids or go shopping with friends. Grab a cocktail or watch for dolphins. You can even rent bikes, take a segway tour or rent a scooter to get around the island. Just don’t forget the sunset, you can’t miss the beautiful sunset over the gulf.
If you’re up for a little road trip, it’s only a short drive off the island. There are so many options like horseback riding on the beach, the Mote Marine Aquarium, shopping at St. Armands Circle or you can take a day trip to Busch Gardens. Sarasota and Longboat Key are a short drive away. Visit a museum or just go for a drive. Whatever you feel like doing that day, you can probably make it happen - or just stay at the beach and relax.
Rates start around $150 for this time of year. The same rooms can go for over $200 during peak season. There is no better time to have a getaway. And it’s only a short drive away.
