Certified Prosthodontist, Dr. Viet Ho is from Dallas. He attended New York University where he obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. He returned to Texas to achieve his Prosthodontics Certificate and Master of Science Degree at Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry. Dr. Ho is an active member of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP), the Florida Prosthodontics Association (DPA), and American Dental Association (ADA).
After college, the beaches and warm weather brought Dr. Ho to Florida, where he acquired his current office. After just a year and a half practicing in Winter Haven, Dr. Ho has become the go-to prosthodontist because of his focus on trust and comprehensive care.
The doctor remembers what made him want to go into the dental field. Not only is his older brother a dentist, but the art and handcrafting of the profession interested him. His specialty came into focus later, after spending more time in the industry. “I fell in love with making an impact for people,” he said, noting that prosthodontists generally handle the more involved and comprehensive cases than a general dentist.
The difference between his specialty in prosthodontics and general dentistry comes down to the sheer scope of cases Dr. Ho can see. “My training involves doing the whole mouth,” he explained.
The process for these more involved cases, Dr. Ho says, begins with a consultation where he assesses the patient’s need and how they got to that point, focusing on prevention of any further issues. “We try to evaluate how we are going to protect what we build before we actually even build it,” he said. Dr. Ho is involved in the whole process until everything has been completed.
His specialty and lab training allows him to perform simple procedures like fillings and crowns on a daily basis, to discolored or broken teeth requiring bonding or veneers. Trained in both the technical and technological aspects of laboratory fabrication, Dr. Ho’s office is equipped to handle even the most complex dental prosthetics and restoration of dental aesthetics.
“I like the beach,” he smiled. “That’s why I came here.” When he isn’t perfecting people’s smiles, he is doing something outdoors like fishing, hunting, or spending time with his family.
Looking toward the future of his practice, Dr. Ho would like to add another associate to further expand the practice. He would also like to incorporate his lab experience by installing an in-house lab and incorporating in-house technicians. According to the doctor, that would allow him to better control and personalize patient treatment.
Every treatment plan at Dr. Ho’s office is based strictly on patient need and priority. “We build the practice here, based on patient trust. We don’t want to sell anything, we don’t want to push patients for their treatment. Usually when the patient comes in, what I do is an exam, an intraoral photo and put it on the TV really big for the patient, then we explain what their need is, what their priority focus needs to be.”
“Patient trust is our central focus at the office,” Dr. Ho said. “Most of our new patients come from our old patients that refer them to us because they trust us and that’s what we want to build on.”
