Pierre Henri Matisse: Stories of Creativity

Sept. 7 through Nov. 24 at the Polk Museum of Art.  Visitors will see how Pierre and his art were inspired deeply by his grandfather and his legacy, and this exhibition puts a spotlight on the artist’s narrative works and series.

Sept. 13-22 at the Lakeland Community Theatre.  Music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, book by Patricia Resnick, based on the 1980 hit movie. Set in the late 1970s this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic.


Return to the 19th Century:  A Night at the Museum

Sept. 14, 7-11pm at Polk Museum of Art.  The carnival will expand on the theme of French-versus-American culture including a burlesque show, French cabaret-style entertainment, carnival games and food.  Signature drinks inspired by the era, crafted by Revival.

Sept. 28, 7:30am.  Presented by Leading Edge to benefit Take Heart Project. TH will use the funds to provide housing, education, job training, and medical care to women and young teenage girls and will aid in the prevention of these women and girls falling victim to human trafficking, disease, and poverty.
